"Oh I'm just a kid
I never use my brain
I only use my heart
And my imagination."This first verse represents how the boys, in such an unfamiliar environment, do not think rationally (or with their brains) and only listen to their heart, letting their emotions make decisions for them. They allow fear and paranoia to control them. The ones who are fearful split themselves from Ralph and end up creating a divide in the groups."Oh I'm just a kid
I'm afraid of the dark
But I'm obsessed with ideas
One day I'll go far."This verse really resonates with Jack. Throughout the novel, it is suggested that Jack is so fearful that he creates ideas that justify his actions of violence and manipulation. Again, the death of Simon was barbaric. Ralph admitted that it was because he was not afraid to accept that reality."Oh I'm no longer a kid
And everything has changed
There's nothing in my heart
And lightning in my brain."These lyrics describe maturing and realizing irrational actions impact themselves and others. At the end of the book, the characters finally realized what they have done and the heartlessness that lead to all of the unnecessary deaths.
